Let’s Work Together To Keep Your Smile Healthy And Beautiful

low cost tooth bleaching Orem

Here at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry we approach all your dental needs from two separate angles – what we can do in our office and what you can do at home. For example, tooth whitening and correcting discoloration can be treated in our office or at home. Here in the office there are safe and effective methods for lightening yellowed or stained tooth enamel. At-home whitening methods are also safe and effective and sometimes more affordable.

Additionally, we advise you regarding food and drink choices that can affect your whitened smile. Be aware of staining culprits such as coffee, tea, tobacco and harsh sodas. We understand that avoiding these items altogether is not an easy lifestyle change. Nor do we expect it.

Awareness and precaution can make a big difference. Rinsing your mouth out with water after drinking a dark or sugary drink can cut down on the contact your teeth have with such substances. Prolonged exposure to sugar can lead to buildup of plaque and tartar and prolonged exposure to staining substances can lead to stronger staining and discoloration.

If you are interested in making improvements to your smile and creating a more confident appearance for your professional career or personal relationships, please pick up the phone and contact the awesome staff at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry today 801-374-0070. Teeth Whitening At Your Provo Dentist

Provo fast teeth whitening Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to improve your smile in Provo. It is quick, cost-effective, and non-invasive. Though some cosmetic dentistry patients experience short-term sensitivity, most experience no tooth whitening pain at all.

If you have looked into Utah County teeth whitening, you probably already know the basics. The one thing they have in common is that they use a solution containing peroxide to remove the stains that have settled in the natural microscopic cracks in your tooth enamel.

There are many DIY teeth bleaching products available in American Fork and it seems like new ones appear every time you visit the toothpaste aisle at your Orem grocery or Lehi drug store.

These tooth whitening strips and tooth whitening pens can sometimes whiten your teeth a few shades, but the peroxide concentration is much lower than the whitening solutions used in Provo cosmetic dental offices. It may not be strong enough for your tooth stains.

Tooth whitening offered at mall kiosks is risky, also. Most of these teeth whitening businesses in Utah have no professional oversight and the employees have little dental training. (Except instruction on how to take advantage of customer naivety.)

Dr. Chris Hammond recommends that you use extreme caution when considering a take-home Orem tooth whitener. If you have tooth decay, gum recession, crowns, or veneers, you definitely need professional guidance.

The portion of your teeth below the gumline, if exposed, may respond differently to tooth whitener. Additionally, the peroxide solution does not noticeably whiten crowns and veneers. If you use a DIY tooth whitener on teeth with extensive porcelain restorations, you should probably hope it doesn’t whiten too much – you may end up with a two- or three-tone smile!

Even though Provo teeth whitening seems simple, your teeth deserve a professional opinion. After all, we are talking about teeth here. You can’t fix an uneven teeth whitening result like you can a bad hair-coloring job.

Schedule a tooth bleaching evaluation before you waste your cash on more Crest White Strips. We can be reached at 801-374-0070.

Smile Makeovers: First Things First

smile design Provo

Hello, I’m Dr. Chris Hammond of Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry. Thanks for visiting my blog. In today’s post, we will focus on something that happens occasionally when a patient requests cosmetic dentistry from their Provo dentist.

Let me set the stage. The patient comes in for a consultation about a smile makeover. We’ll call him Mr. Jones. The dentist listens carefully as he explains the esthetic problems that he wants to remedy. Mr. Jones wants to fix two chipped teeth, get a dental implant for a tooth that is missing altogether, and whiten his whole smile. He describes what he envisions for his smile after undergoing treatment.

The dentist performs an examination of his entire mouth and takes x-rays. The dentist discovers some additional troubles. There are three teeth with moderate decay, one tooth with severe decay, gum disease, an old crown with a crack in it, and severe bone recession at the potential dental implant site where the tooth was extracted ten years ago.

The dentist explains that these issues need to be addressed before the cosmetic dental smile makeover is performed. Mr. Jones says that the smile makeover is his first priority and plans to deal with the other problems sometime in the future.

How does the dentist advise Mr. Jones? The dentist will probably explain that the lasting success of a cosmetic dental procedure such as porcelain veneers, dental bonding, or tooth whitening is influenced by the condition of the mouth at the time of treatment. There must be a solid, healthy foundation, so to speak, on which to build the smile makeover.

First things first. It makes no sense to attach a veneer to a decayed tooth that may need a root canal. A dental implant may not integrate with the surrounding bone structure if placed at a site where there is bone recession. Tooth whitening will probably not produce favorable results where there is gum disease and exposed tooth roots.

Can Mr. Jones ever have his dream smile? Yes! There are treatments to correct all of the problems mentioned previously. But just like many other things in life, the order of operations is critical.

If you are interested in a smile makeover or simply need a check-up, schedule an appointment by calling 801-374-0070. I look forward to discussing both your oral health and esthetic concerns.

Relax. It’s Not The End Of The World.

root canal sedation Provo

Today’s Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry post addresses one of the most feared dental procedures: the infamous root canal. If you are told that you need a root canal, don’t panic. Your dentist recommends this procedure when it is better for your tooth than the alternatives.

A successful root canal (or endodontic treatment in dental-speak) can save a tooth and prevent the need for an extraction followed by a dental bridge, dental implant, or gap in your smile.

If, after a thorough evaluation, Dr. Hammond determines that a tooth is going to need a root canal, Dr. Hammond will explain the procedure and costs that are involved. Root canals are handled to save an infected tooth. If not treated, abscesses and complete tooth loss may occur.

During the procedure, your dentist will remove the nerve and pulp, and then clean and disinfect the interior of your tooth – the canal. The next step is filling and sealing the cleaned area with a special rubbery material, and then protecting the restored tooth with a crown or filling.

Root canals have the reputation of being painful, but this is not the case anymore. There are several effective pain management methods available today at Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry. From local painkillers and numbing agents to oral sedation, we will make sure you are comfortable during the procedure. Once the infected tissue is removed, your dentist will focus on helping the oral site heal, which may require another visit.

If you have a tooth that is bothering you, call Dr. Hammond now at 801-374-0070 for an appointment.

Small Dental Annoyance Or Serious Problem?

mouth sores Utah County

Today in the Provo dental blog we are going to talk about stomatitis. Stomatitis is dental-speak for something very common: non-specific irritations found in the mouth. Stomatitis is ordinarily caused by cold sores, gum disease, or even from biting the inside of the mouth (ouch!). Any time the membranes in the mouth become inflamed, they are referred to as stomatitis.

Most Utah County, American Fork, and Lehi dental patients have probably suffered from stomatitis and don’t think it’s a big deal. The good news is that these patients are usually right because the majority of these irritations clear up on their own in less than two weeks. While they might affect your ability to speak or eat or fall asleep, they are typically just a temporary inconvenience.

However, there are cases where a bacterial or a viral infection can occur in these areas of inflammation.

Because of this possibility, your Orem area dentist should be aware of these issues. Even if you are fortunate and there is no infection present, your dentist can always help you treat the symptoms of stomatitis.

Hi, we are Dr. Hammond of Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry in Provo. We provide the highest quality preventative, restorative and cosmetic dentistry for our Provo area patients. If you have any questions about sedation dentistry, Invisalign, or  smile makeovers, give us a call at 801-374-0070. Common cosmetic dentistry procedures used in smile makeovers include teeth whitening, gum contouring, veneers, bonding, and dental implants.

Tooth Bleaching Fact And Fiction

Provo Teeth Whitening and Veneers You have probably seen ads for lightening products contain terms such as “white brite,” “22 carbamide peroxide,” and “peroxide teeth.” How do you separate tooth bleaching fact from fiction?

Some tooth whitening dentists will guarantee fantastic results for any patient that desires a whiter smile. At Hammond Aesthetic & General Dentistry, we only recommend tooth bleaching for patients that are good candidates for the process. We invite you to speak with Dr. Chris Hammond at our Provo office. Not all teeth whitening systems are appropriate for every person.

Don’t be fooled by smile whitening hype and risk poor results. If you have existing cosmetic dental work such as crowns, bonding, partial dentures or bridge work, it is important to talk to an experienced professional about worry-free teeth whitening.

If you have all-natural teeth that are dull or stained, tooth whitening will probably brighten your smile. If you have several crowns in the front of your mouth, veneers, or gums that have receded, conventional tooth-whitening may not be successful. Porcelain veneers may be a better solution for you. The vast majority of veneer recipients are happy about the results. Porcelain veneers not only brighten your smile, they can provide many other improvements.

Veneers are sometimes called “instant orthodontics” because they can correct tooth misalignment and gaps as well as furnish instant teeth whitening.

Schedule a consultation by calling 801-374-0070. I look forward to meeting you and discussing your unique smile.
